the death that sparked it all, seven years ago today.

LIAV video--boyce mower It was this man's death, seven years ago today, that sparked my writing 37days. Rest in peace, Boyce Hardin. And thank you for the gifts you gave me in the living, and in the dying.

  • What a lovely tribute.

  • Patti-
Thinking about you today… your loss and the gift it created (though you were already quite a treasure:).
Really enjoying your new book – hope you’ll get to Lexington for a signing.

  • What a wonderful legacy he left you. Isn’t it strange (in that wonderful kind of way) that way grace sometimes falls down upon us? My own greatest gift, community making, came from one of my hugest hurts/losses (my first love/marriage). I am glad I had that experience. It teaches me that amazing gifts are always there when we look for them. And look what you’ve given the rest of us from this! Am loving Creative is a Verb (savoring – slowly)

  • Patti,

For me, the impact of 37 Days has been a huge wake up call to me in my life.

I think often about how Kelly lived her last 37 days, what she wanted to accomplsh.

She attended fund raisers for the Ronald McDonald house and Children’s Hospital in Seattle.

She met her transplant donor who had given her the gift of living cancer free for almost five years.

And Kelly’s final wish was be at home when it was her time. Kelly returned home, and was surrounded by her family and lifelong friends.

So Kelly lived and lived joyfully while she was dying. She lived to give her life away and Kelly outlived her life, much as Boyce has.

Thank you for the inspiration you provide and for the work you do in the world.

    Blessings

  • Kim

Will think of Boyce and you as I look at the stars tonight, dear Patti. xox
