Consider this : choose friends you admire

Emma happy prom *Remember how quickly high school went?  College will be over in a blink, too. Make the most of it you can.

*You don't have to know exactly what it is you want to do for a career, just head in the general direction of your passion and watch the doors fling open as you are ready.

*Don't do things that you don't want your parents to know about.  They'll come back to haunt you.

*Practice listening to your "gut," or your intuition or your heart.  This is a lesson I am still learning at age 50, if you start earlier than I did you'll be WAY ahead of the game.

*Don't date anyone that does not treat you with the utmost respect, and that you don't respect right back.  (There are new people to date born every day! )

*That old saying about "you are judged by the company you keep?" It is corny but true.  Choose friends you admire.

*Be grateful for the amazing roots you have been given. Now branch out embrace the sky!

I am gathering wisdom from the far corners of the earth to give my older daughter, Emma, as she graduates from high school. What would you say to her? Or to your own 17-year-old self? What thoughts would you ask her to consider? You can submit your advice (instructions here) and 37 of those will be posted over the next 37 days, one each day, culminating in a free e-book of all the submissions after her graduation on June 14th.
