found-art tuesday : things are awaiting you

Kooser I rode in a car to the airport this morning and kissed Mr Brilliant goodbye. I boarded a toy plane and sat in an exit row aisle seat and flew to Atlanta. I walked to an underground train and took it to another terminal. I stood still while riding up a very tall escalator to the surface again and walked to another gate. I bought a fruit cup. I boarded a big plane and sat silently in an exit row aisle seat and read Richard Powers' new novel, Generosity, and made a mental note of his sheer brilliance and beauty of words. I disembarked and walked several miles from F concourse to B concourse in the Minneapolis airport where I met up with the amazing David Robinson, my business and creative partner, and together we flew in exit row aisle seats to Lincoln, Nebraska, where we rented a tiny black car called a Cobalt even though it wasn't blue and drove across some big flat plains to Hastings, Nebraska. And when we got to Hastings, Nebraska, and checked into our hotel rooms, big gift bags awaited us which included, among many other fantastic things, all the makings for in-room DIY S'mores (candle, marshmallows, Hershey's, graham crackers, metal on which to hold the marshmallows).

And this. A signed copy of poet Ted Kooser's book, Local Wonders. All arranged by little elves named Lisa and Megan.

Just yesterday I mused longingly about Ted Kooser. Today he awaited me. Squeeee!

Things are awaiting you.

Always.

Yay, Patti. Ted Kooser WAS waiting for you in Hastings. Truly – you weren’t THAT surprised, were you? Ted knows poets.

  • When things like this happen ~ I get shivers all over! The Universe is amazing.

    Hey Patti,
Saw something that said you were coming to Atlanta (or rather the Decatur Library) next week. Not sure if it’s Monday or Tuesday tho – can you confirm? Would love to meet you in person. Martha Legare (Susan Gore’s friend).

  • Erin – I *knoooow* – what a treat!

Peggy – you made me smile!

Deb – it is, isn’t it?

Martha – Alas, no. I think you saw something for my reading last year in Decatur on March 30th…
