mindful monday : remember

Emma Shell "When my daughter was about seven years old, she asked one day what I did at work. I told her I worked at the college – that my job was to teach people to draw. She stared at me, incredulous, and said, 'You mean they forget?'" -Howard Ikemoto

This week, remember how to see.

  • Wow, that image is stunning! I was just thinking, the other day, about people who can draw so well that the results almost look like a photograph. And your daughter is one of those people! Cool!

You are amazing! I love your site. I read your book, loved its layout and design. I’m new to your blog. Your simplifying tips were very helpful. I found my timer (from the kids’ piano practicing days), and am committed to spending 15 minutes at least/day to de-clutter. So – – – what happened today? Why didn’t those 15 minutes get done? I’m disgusted with myself, but had to do my tax info before meeting with my acct tomorrow, organize a slide show from my month in Kenya, write for my own blog, yadayada. Hmmmm – I need a star chart.

Patti — Thank you for including Emma’s beautiful shell drawing in your post; which, by the way, put a smile on my face.

Like mother, like daughter. Emma truly sees the world, and captures it for others. Love it!

I look at incredible drawings like Emma’s and think of what an art teacher once told me, about finding, and drawing, the negative space…

  • Children understand. They know they can dance. They know they can draw. They know they can sing. And then they grow up… and after years of society popping their dreams…they can’t draw, they can’t dance, they can’t sing. May we always keep the child within alive and well. Beautiful art,Emma!
