found-art tuesday : irish delight

Desire line I think it's no secret that I love accents, Scottish, Kiwi, Aussie, Irish, South African may well be tops among them. (And yours, of course. I love yours. I could listen to you talk all day long). Adore accents. Make me Scottish and make me happy.

So imagine my absolute delight when a Irishman living in Canada named Dave Riddell sent me his lovely reading of a story of mine from Life is a Verb. You might well hear it on the new audiobook of Life is a Verb if you listen carefully.

And so, some words of mine in an accent I can only pretend to have, but want. Click below to hear about your desire lines.

Come, let's move to Ireland and talk to each other.

Today, a wee bird told me, is Dave Riddell's birthday. And so, Dave, a happy birthday and a thank you all wrapped up in one.

(Update: Dave wrote me a note after seeing this: "Thank you Patti for the wonderful gift! (BTW, I'm 37 today. Coincidence? I think not") Smile.

My all time favorite essay of yours. It was the first one I ever read. I can still remember my emotional response to it sitting at my desk at work. Now, to hear it in this voice (I want to marry this voice), well, this is found-love tuesday for me.

my daughter thought i was losing it one day while we were strolling across the campus where she goes to college. “look! it’s a desire line!” i shouted.

if not for you, i would never have known what it was called. just one more thing for which i’ll be forever grateful to you.
