stepping stone sunday: express a passion

The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra is the national high-school-age youth orchestra of El Sistema, made up of the best young musicians from throughout Venezuela.

This week, let pure fantastic hot passion be your stepping stone into each day. Feel something as deeply as this amazing conductor, 28-year-old Gustavo Dudamel, and these young musicians. Watch how he smiles and feels the music, that fantastic hair flailing, see how he brings the strings in and says YES YES! to the drums. Who could help but be encouraged, drawn into his vision for the music, play their heart out, as these young people are doing?

Let loose! Sway! Smile! ENCOURAGE THE ENTRANCE OF THE OBOES! Swing your head wildly! Dance in your car! Be for someone else what he is for these musicians. Feel life in your bones!

This week, be fully passionate about something. Your work, your family, your cooking, your yard work, a bus, your self.

My thanks to the wonderful Sven Cahling for pointing me to this exuberance. I've never met Sven, but he often sends me great joy from far away.

We LOVE Dudamel here in LA. Thought we’d never recover from Esa-Pekka Salonen leaving but look at who we have now! You really must come to LA some time to see Dudamel perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with its fantastic “french fry” configuration of an organ. The concert hall feels like being on the inside of a violin with all of the beautiful wood.
