Red t-shirts. Some shoes. A few hills, bridges, and Elvis at mile 10.

IMG_8193 I hear Elvis himself will sing to us at some point on the Flying Pig half marathon route on Sunday. I hope it's at mile 10. I really do. Because I will be delirious by then and it won't surprise me at all that The King is serenading me, jumpsuit open to there.

IMG_8204The t-shirts for the intrepid Life is a Verb Flying Pig half-marathon team were printed just down the street by real people with squeegees and ink. The ones for the 14 members of the team have a flying pig on the right sleeve just to remind us of that glorious day in what might be pouring rain, according to the Weather People.

I'll give away a few t-shirts over the next few weeks – the first of which goes to Michelle who left this quote to carry with me: "When nothing is sure, everything is possible." ~Margaret Drabble

I'm also giving away a t-shirt to anyone who donates at least $5 a mile (at 13.1 miles, that equals $65.50) to Metropolitan Ministries. You can find out how to do that here. IMG_8186 IMG_8191 As of today, Mr Brilliant and Tessie won't be there to cheer us on, alas. (She wailed, "I NEVER GET TO GO TO OHIO!" and "I WOULD BE MUCH HAPPIER IF YOU TELL ME I CAN GO!" when I told her, poor thing, breaking my heart). He had a bad fall today and really hurt his ankle, the kind of ouchy ouch that makes you nauseous. And it takes A LOT to get him to that point, so I knew it was bad. But evidently he got his medical degree without telling me, so he refused to go to the doctor. Instead, he prescribed his own treatment: two cooler freezer packs duct taped to his leg. I kid you not.

I might need those freezer packs tomorrow. This could be dicey.

IMG_8210 One more sleep until Cincinnati. No one has stepped forward as my body double, so I guess this is it.

[Thanks to Mary Campbell for the t-shirt design and the happy printers at On a Roll for the great job!]IMG_8194

  • Go Patti – we will start the proverbial cyber cheer!

  • Patti, I hope you and your running-mates have the best time! I admire you all, and in honour of your great effort, I will go for a walk today, I think! Enjoy!

{and so sorry for Mr. Brilliant & Tessie’s disappointment… Aaaaw)

  • Those tshirts are awesome!

Just remember … there will be a day when you can no longer do this … SUNDAY is NOT that day!

  • Esther

Go, go, go Patti. I’m sorry for Mr. Brilliant and Tessie too. I hope the rains don’t come! I’ll be running, er, walking fast, in our Spokane Bloomsday run along with my students and 40,000+ others on Sunday! I’ll be thinking of you. Ours is a 12K run-so half of your half. Best wishes!

  • I love the t.shirts and how they were printed.

    Re: Mr. Brilliant….’men’….*sigh*

Hope his ankle feels better soon and he seeks a consultation with another medical professional while you’re on your adventure.

Have a great time and say ‘hey’ to Elvis for me!

  • Patti, I’m so proud of you – and will be cheering you on.

I have been doing the 37 day challenge quietly, from the sidelines, perhaps too chicken to commit to it publicly. But I’ve learned a lot too. I’ve learned that I tried to keep going and even on those days when it didn’t get done, I went back to it again.

And now I realize that I have the opportunity to try it for another 37 days. That I don’t quit and that I can keep going. And that things that look big, when broken down, aren’t so big anymore.

So my hope for you is that you will succeed through many small things and, when put together, you will see the wonderful big thing that you are doing. (And it’s okay to walk if you don’t feel like running… just keep smiling!)

  • Enjoy every mile! I will be cheering on you and your team from my little corner of the world. You can do it!
(hope Mr. Brilliant is mending quickly)

  • Yes! Those t-shirts are GREAT!

And….”I NEVER GET TO GO TO OHIO!”
