gone canoeing!

8-15-13

Last summer, I took Tess on her first plane ride. We went to Minneapolis to see my friend Nancy, who quickly became Tess’ good and trusted friend. We surprised a reader of mine at her high school graduation near Minneapolis. We had a blast. Here’s what I wrote about why I took her on that trip.

I had great trepidation about that trip, and it was magical. It was perfectly imperfect.

So we’re going back. Nancy has arranged for five of us to go canoeing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Minnesota this week. We’re leaving this morning and will be gone for a week. What I lack in fitness for this trip (carrying canoes and packs and paddling), I make up for in sheer determination. Tess’ job is to teach us all the songs she learned at camp this summer and read the map of the lakes.

No matter what happens, it will be a grand adventure. I’m sure of that.

Here are some offers to consider in my absence:

Project 137 starts Friday, August 16th! Join this amazing group for 137 days of mindfulness and learning to love well, live fully, let go deeply, and make a difference! It is by donation, one-half of which goes to the Project 137 Fund to support people who are in transitions of some kind and need a hand up. By joining Project 137, you can help yourself and help hand someone else along as well!

Design Your Life Camp is going to be amazing! Oct 4-6 near Atlanta, with a stellar line up of speakers and workshop leaders focused on Courage, Creativity, and Community. Special deals through 8/31. Also, a one-day pre-camp writing workshop with me, Jen Louden, and Susan Piver. Leap!

A new VerbTribe is beginning in September for writers who want to create a sustainable writing practice for themselves, and create a strong community of writers in the process. Only 7 spots remain.

Becoming Bendy! September seems like New Year’s to me, and it’s a great time to take a deep breath, regroup, and start focusing on your wellness, weight, and body. With two master wellness coaches from The Biggest Loser online community, we’ll have honest conversations about food and fitness. Starts September 17th.

See you after the canoe trip!

Love,
