Come out

It should come as no surprise to readers of this blog that I support and work hard for the rights of GLBTQ human beings–my friends, known and unknown. I believe that one day we will look back, deeply ashamed at how our nation has treated—and continues to treat—our gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender brothers and sisters, just as we feel national shame at our historical (and ongoing) treatment of people of color.  I also believe that it’s important for heterosexual people to stand up and show support for their GLBTQ friends, family members, and neighbors–we have opportunities to do this not only today, which is National Coming Out Day, but every single day, in ways big and small. Tonight at 6pm, I’ll be at a community moment of witness to support the equal rights of my GLBTQ friends and family and neighbors. Stand up for them. Come out for them.
