Favorite Friday: What I Write With and On
Every week on Friday, some things I love. No affiliate links, just things I love because I love them and want to share the love so you might love them too. Lots of love. Love all around, no commerce.
This week? Pens and pencils and what I write on. Good lord, I had to restrain myself to make this post less than 12 pages long. So, here are the top of the top. I’m sure I’ll come back to this topic again and again:
Pens
Fountain pens are my pens of choice always. Fine or extra fine nibs.
My favorite all-around-town and traveling fountain pen is the Kaweco Sport, either the Tiffany-esque color of the sea in the Caribbean or dark green the color of the deepest forest. Or both. Nothing fancy, small, portable, and cute as heck.
Other pens I am fond of include the TWSBI of various models, like the clear Eco and/or this one for a pop of color.
If you must use a non-fountain-pen-pen, I am partial to the multicolor pens sold by Hobonichi in Japan, which you can only get if you buy their Hobonichi planner (which I highly recommend) with the spectacular Tomoe River paper (see below), as well as the Mildliners they sell. If Japan ain’t your thing, then go with a simple and ubiquitous ballpoint from Bic, Flair from Papermate, or Sharpie, three powerhouses.
Ink
I’m a fan of these inks, and not just because the bottles are gorgeous, all lit up with jewel tones and deep browns and dusky greens. At the moment, I’m using shin-kai, kire-same, syo-ro, and Murasaki-shikibu.
Pencils
Blackwing, Blackwing, Blackwing.I’m also a fan of the Perfect Pencil. Never be without a sharpener is my motto, and this one is built in.
Sharpeners
Blackwing sharpener, which I have in white, but the black one is lovely too.Paper
There simply is no paper like Tomoe River paper. End of story.
Where to buy
Jetpens and GouletPens are my go-to dealers.More notebooks, paper, and pens in next week’s Friday Favorites. Can you tell I’m a bit paper and pen/cil obsessed? It is a lifelong trait.
