your daily rock : what do you need?

When Emma was little, I quit my job to start my own business so I could be home with her more.

As a consultant, I soon found I could make more money in a week than I was making in a month at my job as a vice president with a nonprofit organization. In short order, I was working and traveling just as much as I was before I quit to spend time with Emma.

A friend sat with me at lunch one day as I marveled at the money I could make in this new endeavor–having worked in nonprofits my whole career until then, this was new to me. He listened, eating. And then he quietly said something that changed it all for me:

“I think maybe the question is not how much can you make, but how much do you need?”

I stayed home more often after that lunch.

What do you need?

Love,
