your daily rock : detach from outcome

When I travel, I carry “daily rocks” with me and leave them in airports and hotels for others to find.
At first, I have to admit I wanted to see someone find the little rock message, just to experience the joy of that moment of wonder. And then I realized that by leaving the rock to be found like a sweet serendipity, I had made my strong offer. I didn’t need to know the outcome.
The more I’ve been able to detach from outcome, the freer I have become. When I write a book, by the time it is published, my work is long since done and my job is to keep writing, not look at Amazon rankings or reviews. When I parent, my job is to open space for my kids to walk into and through, and I have to let go of the outcome, knowing I have done my part.
If we can detach from outcome, we can make truer, more honest, stronger offers.
What outcome do you need to detach from?
Love,
