your daily rock : kiss the messenger!

Sometimes we get difficult or painful feedback that we resist, push against. And often, we want to “kill the messenger,” as the saying goes.

But if we can give up our resistance, we can sometimes see truth in what has been said. And that truth, even years later, can often provide us with the catalyst to grow.

Our job is not to take on all the feedback we get. We don’t have to own it or accept it immediately or ever, but hold open space for it.  And because pain sometimes can create constructive change, we need to kiss the messenger! See every moment as an opportunity to learn and all messengers become our teachers.

Love,

I’ve been thinking about this very thing that last couple of days. I came up with a question to ask myself when resistance strikes, “What am I afraid of?” It is amazing how when we shed light on our fears their grip loosens.
