Tess on rock

MIND

Having spent a good part of my career working in nonprofits and associations, this made me laugh. That kind of recognition laugh, you know?

This is an important film about autism, playing for free on PBS until August 28th. I hope you can take time to watch it before then.

This really made me laugh because some variation of it is probably true for most parents.

BODY

Thin-shaming and fat-shaming: “Thin-shaming and fat-shaming are not separate, opposing issues—they are stratifications of the same issue: Patriarchal culture’s need to demoralize, distract, and pit women against one another. To keep women shackled by shame and hunger. To keep us obsessing over our flaws rather than our power and potential. To get our money….ALL of our energy, collectively, no matter what our size, should be directed at the system that makes us hate ourselves for profit.”

This is a beauty of a small home.

How not to respond to the news that Bradley Manning is transgender.

“Leaning in” to Lego camp: “It was her idea to come, but she’s worried she’ll be the only girl,” I explained to him. He nodded. “She doesn’t want boys taking over her project. She doesn’t want to fight to be heard.”

On what happened to the mothers who gave up promising careers in the late 1990s and early 2000s to be home with their children.

Oh, yes, to the dosas.

And to the roasted eggplant-almond dip, another yes.

SOUL

Are you worthy?

WORD

Mostly it is loss which teaches us about the worth of things.” -Arthur Schopenhauer
