your daily rock : do the hard things first

We all have lists. Long lists, ranging from “get more cat food” to “be a mother to my children” to “finish writing the Great American Novel.”

It’s easy to look at that list and feel overwhelmed, and paralyzed. More often than not, we veer toward the simple tasks, those ones we can check off our list easily. Low-hanging fruit.

That leaves a heaviness to carry around, though, doesn’t it? Like that paper about John Milton’s “Paradise Lost” I got an extension on in graduate school. It got heavier and heavier with every passing week until I couldn’t do it, but I couldn’t do anything else either.

What would happen if we didn’t do that? How would our days feel if we did the hard things first?

What hard thing do you need to do?

Just for this week, start each morning with the hard things first and see what happens.

Love,
