your daily rock : be a learner, not a judge.
When you come to a place of discomfort, a place of not-knowing, you have a choice: You can either learn in that moment, or you can judge. But you can’t do both, so you have to choose.
And when you feel uncomfortable, at an “edge,” you will inevitably judge yourself first: “I’m an idiot–everybody else has this figured out” or “I can’t believe I said that.”
And then you judge others: “She’s an idiot–how could she not know that?” “Did you hear what he said?”
Edges are beautiful places, if we can notice our judging (it’s our judging that indicates we’re at an edge, after all) and focus on learning instead. Most of the time, the learning is simply in noticing what we notice about what we do at an edge. Do we jump over the edge? Do we run away? Do we disengage? Do we sabotage? Can we answer those questions without judging ourselves? Every response is right–if we can notice what we notice about what we do at the edge.
Be a learner, not a judge.
