your daily rock : sit the hell down and write
I teach amazing writers.
And in our explorations of what it means to write and how to build a sustainable writing practice, it all comes down to sitting back down and staying in the room when the laundry gets real, real fascinating.
Writers write. Painters paint. They create their own practice. And what has taken the place of our work has become our work. Many writers are busy cleaning their houses and surfing the net instead of writing. There’s no judgment implied in that–it is just free data about our priorities and our avoidances.
What keeps you from your passion, your work in the world? Whatever it is, that has become your work.
Is that satisfying to you? Is that your legacy?
If not, sit the hell down and write. Where “write” is a placeholder for your own passion, your own voice, your own special work in the world.
Stay in the room, sit back down, practice.
Love,
