your daily rock : choose joy

I am not always joyful.

Are you?

In fact, I am often overcome by the bigness of the sadness and inequity in the world. Sometimes I am in great pain, for myself or others. Life sometimes feels big and panicked and hurtful.

And even in those moments, I know I have a choice: I can make a choice that closes me down, or I can make a choice that opens me up.

I can choose, as William Wordsworth suggested, to live with an eye made quiet by the power of harmony, and the deep power of joy, so I can see into the life of things.

That is always a choice we can make.

Choose the deep power of joy today.

Love,

  • That Wordsworth passage is one of my very favorites. Also “in this moment there is life and food for future years.” I have written a fair amount about thew fact that he’s the poet I hear the most frequently in my head.
