your daily rock : lower your standards

“Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.”  -Voltaire

Sometimes we need to lower the bar for ourselves. Not forever, but for a moment, to give ourselves a moment to breathe in the midst of all this striving. Giving ourselves some grace is not failing, and it is not a deep dive into mediocrity either.

You want to exercise 30 minutes a day, but never do? Set the bar at 10 minutes a day and enjoy succeeding at it. You want to have friends over for dinner, but never have time to cook? Invite them over for take-out rather than miss the time to see them altogether.

Allow yourself to have some “wins.” Is that so hard?

This doesn’t mean to “settle.” It means to adapt to your true reality, not that ideal one that keeps us out of living.

How can you lower your bar today?

Love,
