your daily rock : i keep you in my heart

“i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)” -e.e. cummings

When I traveled a lot (too much), Tess was young and bewildered, I know now, by my absences. The phrase we learned to say to each other was always this one: I keep you in my heart. It reminds me of this favorite poem of mine.

It also reminds me that space and time ultimately do not matter…though in the short term they often do, as in Tess’ case. Even so, she (and I) were (and are) comforted by the image of our selves in the other person’s heart. (I can see that the sheer mention of e.e. cummings influences me to use parenthetical phrases willy-nilly.)

Who do you keep in your heart? Tell them.

Love,
