your daily rock : be thrilled by small things

The small things of life were often so much bigger than the great things . . . the trivial pleasure like cooking, one’s home, little poems especially sad ones, solitary walks, funny things seen and overheard.” -Barbara Pym

We plan big events, and wait for big moments in our lives. We mark our calendars and polish the silverware and set the table with our grandmother’s china. We count down the days. We envision perfection for that moment. And in so doing, we sometimes miss the light on the trees in this perfectly ordinary day.
