my cape has tiny red pom-poms on the bottom.

I am afraid of heights. Deeply. They make me shake. A diving board is too high for me.

And yet, I’ve long wanted to experience the letting go that comes with trapeze, particularly after reading Sam Keen’s writing on trapeze.

And so, at 5pm on February 29th (Leap Day), I’ll climb up high and let go.

I hope if you’re in the San Diego area, you might come with me.

I’ll be working in San Diego for the Boy Scouts of America the day before, and spending the morning of Leap Day doing a community service project with the Boy Scouts at a center for youth with developmental disabilities.

And then I will fly, my little cape with tiny red pom-poms soaring behind me.

Fly with me. Leap.

What will your leap on Leap Day look like?

  • I took my children to try trapeze almost a year ago (http://www.adesignsovast.com/2011/02/trapeze/) and it was among my very favorite life experiences.  Amazing.  I can’t wait to hear how it goes.

  • so sorry I can’t make the leap with you! I’ll be out of town…can’t wait to hear ALL about it.

Hi Patti, Your post makes me think of the question I try to ask myself often: “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”

Patti, I’m more impressed by this than anything I’ve read lately.  This is the REAL facing of your fears.  I’m sitting ehre seriously considering what I can do with my life on Feb 29 that will show solidarity with your courage and risk.  Don’t know yet what it will be, but I’ll let you kow when I get it.  ;-)

Oh Patti…I would LOVE to see you in San Diego… but…I took your Leap Day challenge and have booked a tandem skydive for that day. GAD ZOKES…just typing about it makes my hands sweat…I figure it is now or never…getting to old to be daring for much longer!

I love the idea of leaping outside the comfort zone on Leap Day. Going to have to give that one some serious thought.

Gosh Patti, I read your blog years ago and I just stumbled back upon it. I’m so sorry I lapsed in my reading! But I’m so glad to be back and inspired all over again.

I love the concept of challenging myself on leap day. I will have to give this some serious thought!

  • okay, I’m in! (My plans to go out of town changed.) I’ll be in Del Mar, booked for the 5pm trapeze class. yikes!

You’ve inspired me! I was all freaked out because the scheduled “team-building” event for my workplace includes such activities as zip-lining… I was thinking NO WAY – EVER! just last night, and now, reading this, I see I just have to, because it’s happening on February 29th, so I’m going to leap with you, Patti!
