poetry wednesday : stand up

"Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim." -Elie Wiesel

The "It Gets Better" videos are poetry in motion.

Poetry that might save a life. Poetry borne of pain, and of recognition.

Pass them on. Make one and post it. Ask your local schools to order this free film as part of their anti-bullying program.

Reach out when you see evidence of any kind of bullying. Do not stand idly by. Do not be neutral. Standing up is sheer, beautiful, heart-stopping poetry.

  • I agree! These videos are so heartwarming and profound. I’m so happy to see how many others are getting involved. Giant kudos to Dan Savage for starting it.

  • Jan

Like fierce and loving mamas, there are many of us who would “eat raw tarantulas in hot sauce” to save the life of a young (or old) LGBTI and questioning precious person. Not least because we need you to be and do whatever you will be and do in the world when it is easier for you to live in your own skin. I believe it gets better and I believe it’s worth it.

  • I feel as though my whole life has been spent waiting for the right idea, movement, or struggle to believe in so strongly that I finally rise from my comfort zone and stand shoulder to shoulder with like minds. The time is now. NOH8
