sunday sounds : this is the end of my life, but it’s not the end of my love.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. -Eden Ahbez, "Nature Boy" (1948).

Eva died yesterday morning at 9:30am.

She posted this video message on February 11th when her death seemed imminent. It is not easy to watch, but important to watch.

Would we could all face death with this spirit, from a place of great thankfulness. "This is the end of my life," she says, "but it's not the end of my love." She is spending her time loving. She feels lucky because she has loved more than she could imagine was possible. She is celebrating that. Are you?

Eva would live just six weeks after posting the video, in a journey chronicled on her blog. Read it. Scroll through the photographs of this beautiful young woman, read her important words, hear her goodbye. Leave her family a note if you are so moved.

My thanks to Amy McCracken for her amazing advocacy work for people with cystic fibrosis. It was Amy who first introduced me to Eva, to Eva's journey.

Just love and be loved in return.

I have followed Eva’s blog and she was the most amazing young woman!
My daughter is a geneticist who has just begun research for a cure for CF and it is looking very hopeful. Not in time for dear Eva but hopefully for my good friend’s granddaughter who is one.

  • This is hard to watch today but I will return to it – I thank you. I learned Friday that Angela’s brain tumor has returned and I am a bit in shock.

  • thank you for this. and that quote. “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.” thank you. you inspire on so many levels.

  • May Eva’s soul forever rest in peace. Her love will keep on giving.

  • Acausal Connection

The courage with which many people face death always amazes me. Whenever I see people in situations similar to this I question whether I will be able to face it courageously myself and, when my time comes, whether I will be able to say that I have lived a full and meaningful life. The quote Eva read from the wall sums it up nicely. It reminded me of 1 Corinthians 13:13. Rest in peace, Eva.

  • mrs mediocrity – i know. mine too.

deb – may your daughter find great success and help so many.
