thinking thursday.

John portrait by Tess mind :: my brain and yours

The State of the Union Address. I'm reminded each time how easy it is to criticize and how much harder it is to help. Cynicism is a negative intention. This is as true now as it was during the Bush administration. I'm trying to hold myself to my own standard on this one. It's too easy to be snarky.

An important man. May he rest in peace. With thanks for his work in the world.

And a goodbye to J.D. Salinger also.

The web way to learn a language.

Mr Brilliant earns his name every single day on his blog. Yes he surely does.

What words should be banished in 2010?

body :: my place and yours

I had a big revelation recently. More on that soon on the pages of this blog. The outcome? A focus on healthy eating and some majorly sore quadriceps. Exercise is linked to healthier aging. Did you know that?

It's just not every day you get your Very Own Tab on someone's blog.

Being gay at work.

soul :: my heart and yours

What have you done for Haiti? (Thanks to Kathryn Ruth Schuth)

"The contradiction between time’s relentless linearity and the irregular, swooping arcs of my heart and mind is a theme of my life."

I warn you. Sit down before you open this link. I warned you, didn't I? Smile.

A final thought :: "Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free." -Dalai Lama (Thanks to Maxine Rothman)

Another final thought :: "If you have a better idea, let our President know!" -Nancy MacDonald
