thinking thursday.

Haiti-quake-aid-boy-recei-001 Let's imagine it's still Thursday. Yesterday was a day of canceled flights and mechanical failures and missed connections and airport food and fun, so here's Thinking Thursday just a tad late.

mind :: my brain and yours

Let's take a class at Yale.

An exercise in changing yourself.

A field guide to the loner. (Thanks to Carla Blazek)

body :: my place and yours

15 reasons to go vegetarian, for you, for animals, and for the planet.

I love many of these. The rawness of the edges and the colors make me very happy.

soul :: my heart and yours

I spoke at a wonderful church in Elgin, Illinois, this past Sunday. You can listen to the podcast of my talk here. (And here's a link to a powerful earlier podcast from that same church, by Dan Hislip, "A Response to Poverty.") (Thanks to Beth Cooper-Zobott for inviting me to be there).
Simplicity is my new mantra. Tomatoes, an onion, a stick of butter (or Earth Balance).

I want.

I need.

I want and need. Smile. Here's to unicorns and ditches. ("Johnny Depp’s a unicorn—a really glamorous, one-of-a-kind eccentric. He wears great man jewelry. He doesn’t shy away from color. He’s always peeking through his amazing hair. It doesn’t matter if Johnny Depp’s lying in a ditch—he’s always going to look incredible.”) [Thanks to the 50+ people who have emailed me about this!]

A final thought :: We move on so quickly, don't we? A murder, a death, a tsunami, 9/11. And now Haiti. Don't forget Haiti. Maintain the focus, help however you can.

  • Today:
    1. validation for needing time to decompress
    2. a pasta sauce recipe that even I could do
    3. a writing exercise that I desperately need
    4. a happy me for following where you point

    Thanks!

Thanks for the links, Patti. I absolutely have to have (and want and need, too) a BookBook for my Mac. Genius!

I read about the whiteboard paint this morning in a magazine. Great idea. It costs $199 a can, which covers 50 square feet. Can’t you just see a wall of a studio or office covered in this? Or heck, a whole room!

The Psychology Today article is fascinating. I’m one of those introverts who needs to recover after social situations. My husband, who is an extrovert, has never quite understood this, so I showed him the article. What I found particularly interesting was the overstimulation in parts of the brain that “reserved” types are subject to. No wonder we’re worn out after a party. Good stuff.

  • Amen to all of that. Especially the Johnny Depp part. Smile.

  • So many great pleasures in this post. I have been wondering if I should buy a third giant whiteboard because my other two are always full of things I need/want to stay there longer. I was so excited to learn of whiteboard paint that I did a whole blog post about it.

Your UU talk was gorgeous – beautiful, inspiring and full of so many stories that will linger for me today. Thank you for sharing the podcast link.

And for the reminder to keep a portion of our hearts, minds and resources on helping Haiti.
