mindful monday : happiness is a revolutionary act.

Hap3 "To be truly happy in this world is a revolutionary act because true happiness depends upon a revolution in ourselves. It is a radical change of view that liberates us so that we know who we are most deeply and can acknowledge our enormous ability to love. We are liberated by the truth that every single one of us can take the time and pay attention. That is our birthright. Our own happiness can change history, and it does."

-Sharon Salzberg, "Lovingkindness"

I was thinking something different after reading the title. In NYC (and probably some other big cities) everyone looks very serious and dour, and it feels revolutionary to express happiness (or peace, or contentment) in the public space. You also look a little insane.

  • I love the image of the monks, dancing with such joy on the beach, seemingly without a care in the world.

  • I started reading your book on my journey home to visit family for the holidays and I will check in with you every day to “be mindful”…Hugs from across the miles.
