found-art tuesday : stones in my pockets

IMG00733 I've got these seven stones in the right waist pocket of my Scottevest travel vest this morning. En route to the airport. A short trip to Las Vegas to give a speech (I love the fact that they used my "Bobby Sherman bio.")

And these stones in my pocket to leave along the way, to be found by others, perhaps to provide an instant of mindfulness, of meaning, of joy or thoughtful pondering. Or disregard, I don't know.

I don't have any control over their reception, only over their giving.

And so I will leave them all somewhere to be found before I get home.

Found art.

Leave something for another human being to find today.

Love my little stones. Left one that said Signal Your Turns here at the Toyota dealer while my car is being serviced. For some reason, it just cracked me up to do that. These stones have already been fun and I’ve only left two so far.

  • When you posted about the rock fairy, I had to buy some. Then I had to buy more so I could give some to my friends. ;-)

    All the best!

I love the leaving the stones where others can find them. I’ve carried a stone in my pocket for years. Every day for the past four years a stone with one simple word, “Bill.” He was a classmate of ours at seminary. We would be assigned certain days to provide a reflection for the class. It would be based on a reading. My friend would somehow always draw a reading involving being a spiritual rock/foundation. It was amazing what he could draw out of the same reading, so many different life experiences, so much wisdom. So when he died, it seemed like the right way to always carry him with us. We each carried a rock during our ordination ceremony. He has helped me a lot over the last couple of years, whenever I feel alone or lonely, I only have to reach into my pocket and the presence of my “rock” comes to mind.

  • I have one of these stones with the word TRANSFORM on top of my desk since I arrived from Squam Art Workshops this past September.
After the SAW experience, It reminds me daily of my need to transform and give creativity and writing another chance.

The world is definitely small. Little did I know that at a friend’s recommendation I would be directed to your site to check out your book and find these stones and a link to their creator’s blog.

I look forward to ordering and reading your book. I have just read your jeans essay and truly enjoyed its significance.

I can’t wait to read more.
