Madison and Minneapolis, here I come!

Madisonstatest1 What I love about this Life is a Verb book tour is that it is 100% driven by 37days readers. Kathy Schuth wrote from South Bend, Indiana, and there I went. I’ve already told Kathy I’ll be back for more of that pumpkin and squash soup when the next book comes out.

Tomorrow I leave for some fantastic fun in Madison, Wisconsin, with the fabulous Jodi Cohen who has arranged for me to read in a feminist bookstore called "A Room of One’s Own" tomorrow night. (I love how the quotation marks in their event description turned into question marks.)

Jodi and I will also take her guitar to a senior citizen center tomorrow afternoon and sing songs for shabbot. "Do you want to join me?" she asked. "It’s a bit of a scene..a friend comes with her 4 and 7 year old girls to help, another woman comes with a big black katrina rescue dog for everyone to pet. It reminds me of what it must have been like on the ark…" Truly, would anyone in their right mind say no?  I’ll be the one lip synching.

I hope if you are in the Madison area, you might come say hello tomorrow night at A Room of One’s Own! I’d love to meet you and I’m betting that in a bookstore that hosts a reading group called the "Shameless Hussies," we could have us some fun, too.

Bingoagogo_07 Then, the very next morning, Jodi and Patti take a wild road trip through the wilds of Wisconsin and Minnesota so I can get to Minneapolis in time for BINGO-A-GO-GO, a fund raiser for people with AIDS that is hosted by drag queens. I ask you, is there any greater fun to be had in this world than bingo with thousands of your closest friends? "B-4" they will shout! "AND AFTER" we will all respond!

The marvelous Nancy O’Brien who is hosting me in Minneapolis asked tentatively if I might want to go to Bingo-A-Go-Go. "We don’t have to, if you’re too tired," she wrote. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Would I miss it? No, I wouldn’t. I’m going to Kim’s Wig Shop today to get a bright pink pageboy wig for the occasion.  (Did I ever mention that this vegetarian won an entire cured pig-ham object in Switzerland playing Bingo once? Not that I’m competitive…)

And after all that glorious fun is over, I will read in Minneapolis twice on Sunday–

PILGRIM LUTHERAN CHURCH – ST. PAUL (1935 St. Clair Avenue – corner of St. Clair & Prior)
9:45am Forum: LIFE IS A VERB: Living Mindfully and Intentionally in Community
Patti will share the 6 Practices for Living Intentionally that have emerged from her 5-year exploration of that question—with a particular emphasis on the application of those practices in a spiritual community

AMAZON COOPERATIVE BOOKSTORE – MINNEAPOLIS (4755 Chicago Ave South – 48th & Chicago)
6pm Book Reading: LIFE IS A VERB: 37 Days To Wake Up, Be Mindful, & Live Intentionally
The Amazon Bookstore is the longest running feminist bookstore in the country – GET OUT OF TOWN, REALLY? I’m honored to be there.

I hope you might join me there. It won’t be the same without you. I mean that.

Good Lord, I hope that each reader who invites you tries to one-up THAT list of joy.

She means it, good people. She came. Here. To lovely South Bend. In the middle of 12 inches of rain. She ate my soup. She touched alot of people. Just all as I’d hoped. Better than that, actually.

Sounds like a hoot! I smiled with every word of this post, especially at “lip synching”…that would be me. Enjoy!

How wonderful for you, Patti, getting to see Miss Richfield in action at Bingo-a-go-go in Mpls. She’s really great and reminds me of our own Asheville queen, Cookie LaRue. I’ll email you details.

  • Wait…you were in Minneapolis and I MISSED YOU?? *weeps*
