DAY 29 :: Embrace your ordinary wonders
Let my last 37 days
be ordinary wonders –
with early mornings on the patio
drinking black coffee,
and afternoons scrubbing scum off dingy bathroom tiles,
or folding still warm laundry.
Let them be filled with the familiar –
old photos peppering side tables,
my daughter’s winsome smile,
and the sound of my husband snoring.
Let them be full of sacred acts –
cooking meals for my family,
writing letters to strangers,
watering my garden.
Let my final days
be a reminder
that I was luckier than most,
that I had the things money cannot buy,
that I was loved.
-Kim Cody
Many thanks, Kim, for reminding us that the sound of snoring is an ordinary wonder, that cooking meals for our families is a sacred act, that we are most powerful at our most ordinary, and that being loved is the luckiest thing of all.
A signed copy of LIFE IS A VERB will soon sit on those side tables peppered with old photos in Kim’s living room in Ohio.
