A Reddi Wip Day
I’m not the sort, ahem, but if I were, today would have been a Straight-from- the- can- into- your- mouth Reddi Wip kind of day. At 4:58 p.m., I hit <send>, and all 84,372 words swept out of my computer into the ether, like magic, to the publisher. What remains is creating a DVD with the 107 pieces of art that flowed into my world from readers of 37days. Incredible, incredible, incredible. The art itself is amazing, and the stories behind the art are fantastic. I’m going to ask each artist to write a short paragraph, if they are willing, about why they created the image they did–the back-story, if you will.
One of the artists, Katie Green, attends the "Bridging Differences Book Club" I host at a local bookstore each month (next month’s book is Junot Diaz’ Drown, if you’re interested), and our meeting was tonight.
Katie said she loved the community art aspect of this 37days project and we brainstormed about ways to continue it–as one of the commenters suggested.
Perhaps opening up 24-hour windows of time after essays are posted on 37days for artists to interpret the essay and post their illustration for possible inclusion on 37days (and, perhaps, a future book?) I’m open to suggestions, if folks are interested to play, create art, noodle on some stuff together, see what we see….
For the moment, what I really need is a cup of Earl Grey Lavender tea, a hot shower, maybe just a tiny snort of Reddi Wip just to be polite, and some sleep in a big quiet bed.
