Under the sofa? Behind the refrigerator? between the box spring and the mattress? In between “the letters of Virginia Woolf, Vol 1” and the I Ching? In the back left corner of the closet, with a polished gemstone and half and sandwich? In the toe of a patent leather pump?

I think it was somewhere in the kitchen, maybe between the fridge and what’s next to it, or under the fridge, between the stove and what’s next to it. Somewhere in the kitchen, or that room next door where the laundry is.

Did you reach into a pocket in a coat, jacket, pair of slacks you haven’t touched in some time and find it there?

  • Nicole

At the bottom of your favorite bag, sitting there innocently, as though it had never gone away.

Wrapped in a sweater at the top of the closet.

  • What a wonderful way for you to start the new year! It’s like saving the best Christmas present for last! So… was it in the bottom of the toy box?

  • On top of a cupboard at work?

btw, thought you might like this:

“Guernica: Who are you speaking to in your poems?

Billy Collins: I’m speaking to someone I’m trying to get to fall in love with me. I’m trying to speak intimately to one person. ”

  • Billy Collins finally returned it?

“O.K.–no one is close. Here’s a hint–the correct answer is a 4 word sentence contained in this post!”

Hint 2: don’t use “no”, “four”, “sentence”, “this” or “post”. Use only the two sentences preceding Hint 2! Or, forget it, and go to:

Hint #3: here’s a closer clue, following Patti’s long emotional drive to finding the little camera, a losing battle won:

    “Red Head Wins Trek!”
(The answer’s in this four-word anagram!)

Sorry–I think I just bored myself silly with this one.

  • Yay!

In the bathroom, in the cabinet under the sink, tucked in next to all the toilet paper.

(thanks, Pearl, for the link to that interesting interview!)

Found in the fireplace after a series of family portraits taken from a log’s point of view.

  • I’m thinking in the car.

  • Katie

yippee! i was afraid tess threw it into the recycling bin. i am so glad you found your beloved camera. a truly happy new year gift! and who is the person who hid it from you?

  • Carol

I think it must have been in your car, so it was with you everywhere you went.
    Glad you found it.

  • Joy

    In a jacket pocket?

  • It was under a seat cuz it fell out of a bag, and it was dark under the seat, my thinking it was passenger seat, but maybe in back behind the driver.

  • catherine

Hey Patti, give us some more time…our two heads will continue working on this later this evening!

  • Where kid rats end?

Just so pleased to hear of its return. Whew.

    Hi,
I’m a frequent reader of your blog and first time commenter. Per your hints I can venture to say you may have found your camera in camera in a closed container i.e like a tin or something where you may keep drawing, hardware or perhaps skewers somewhere in a closet/drawer.
And even if I don’t get it right, I want to say congratulations.

  • Teresa

You found it in your purse. I once found a “lost” checkbook in my purse, even after searching for it for two days, always rechecking for it in my purse. After finally giving up, closing the account, and even leaving town on vacation, it was almost like an angel had placed it back into my purse for me to find. Miracles and mysteries always keep me wondering.

  • Oh, how much more exciting these possibilities are than the real story! Several have gotten it right and will receive 37days calendars – many others made me laugh – and the answer is here: http://37days.typepad.com/37days/2007/01/narrow_your_sea.html

thanks for all the rejoicing on my camera’s behalf!

  • Joy K.

    Happy New Year, Patti!

I’m just happy to hear you got it back!!

Shelley got the location right and sent back an anagramed (“where kid rats end”) answer. I think she should get a 2008 calendar as well.

  • I’m heading off to bed to the strains of “Happy Days are Here Again!”

    Yeah, Patti!

  • The last place you looked for it of course… and there it was. So did I win????

    Hi again, Patti!

I’m anxiously looking forward to my calendar (the one in my office is stuck on perpetual December, 2006), but it hasn’t arrived yet. If for some reason you’ve decided not to send it, that’s fine – I’m just hoping you’ll still have the calendars in February (seems like they’re selling pretty quickly – hooray, Patti!) when I can order one.

Please let me know either way. Thank you.
